Welcome. I’m Emily Anderson, Author of Eco Chic Weddings and Eco Chic Home. I started this blog as “EcoChicWeddings” n 2006, and in 2009 it became “GoodWithStyle.” The name has changed but the message has always been consistent–that it is very easy to make better consumer choices without giving up what style, design, and quality. You just have to look for it.
But this blog isn’t about buying your way to being a better person, it’s about Being Different when it comes to your relationship to things. Or what Siddhartha tells us is “the false path.”
My wedding book is Eco Chic Weddings, but it’s about more than just being eco, and more than just planning a wedding. I wrote the book because I saw firsthand how difficult the modern wedding experience can be for brides and grooms. I wanted to show people an easier and gentler way to get married–and at the same time redirect your money toward things that will have a positive impact on the world.
My main message for the newly engaged couple–don’t fall victim to the wedding market machine, where you’re told you have to spend money on this, that, and the other. Where women are diminished and treated like pretty pink princesses, and not the grown capable women they are.
My message about your home is basically live within your means, be happy where you are planted, get creative and learn new things, and don’t try to keep up with the Jones’. In this crazy time, we need to be more mindful about our motives, are we buying things to fit in, to feel better, or because we’re just following the rules of the game? Believe me I am far from perfect when it comes to frugal living, but that really is the goal for me. But I have a lot of unconventional ideas about sustainable, ethical, mindful living, so I hope you’ll stick around and join me on the journey.
